happy anniversary blog

Four years ago, i succumbed to the trend of self-expression on the internet. I didn't really put much thought/hope into it-my initial enthusiasm with things fizzle out fairly quickly. Why should it be any different with blogging? I started off with a couple of (in hindsight) whiny posts about exams and trivial junk. Then, i used the blog as an outlet to vent my teenage angst and more irrelevant entries about university life. At a certain point, i started to appreciate this platform i had where i was free to say whatever i want about anything i want. Life as a medical student puts a strain on your sanity. So i turned to my blog, scribbling down my unexpressed opinions as a form of literary cathartic therapy.
As i grew older, i was fascinated to see how the blog evolved WITH me. My interests diversified and dare i say i became slightly more mature? Certain events of mine are cemented in the online archives for posterity. In the past year, i too, found the blog a useful place to signpost various events that occured. For example my tribute to sesame street which was influential in my growing up and it was something i felt very strongly about sharing. It is sad that blogger has taken a backseat since the inception of twitter and facebook. The days where almost everyone had a blog are gone. I guess now we get a strangely satisfying glimpse of our friends' lives or daily routines from quick, abbreviated status reports on facebook/twitter. Even I enjoy my daily one liners and instant feedback, something blogger cannot provide.Nevertheless, blogging remains something close to my heart. After all, the 420 characters facebook allow is hardly enough when you have something meaningful in mind.
A last word to the people who are frequent followers of my writings. I may have lost readers over the years due to erratic and infrequent posts, but my heartfelt appreciation to friends who stay interested over these four years. Future posts may be seperated by long silent weeks but be assured that i have no intent of letting this blog rot away.
